Don Richardson
It is with great sadness we report that Don Richardson has passed away. A long-serving member of Derwent Bowmen Archery Club, Don was well-known to many and will be sorely missed. He passed away on Monday, 12th November.
Don Richardson loved Archery, especially the Longbow, which he was often seen shooting at the club. He and his family were regular features at Derwent and involved in many of the club’s activities, but his involvement wasn’t just at a local level. He served as Tournament Organiser for the British Longbow Society for many years before assuming the position of President of Society.
After his retirement from shooting, Don continued to serve Derwent Bowmen. His latter years saw him serving as one of the four trustees of the club, a position he held until his death.
Fellow trustee, Brenda Greaves, said, “Don was a great example of The Complete Archer, not just in the sport to achieve personal goals, indeed Don put more into the club than he ever got out of it, he embodied the slogan of GNAS, Union True Heart and Courtesy
“A true gentleman, he will be missed.”
Don’s funeral will take place at the Hutcliffewood Crematorium on Abbey Lane in Sheffield on Monday, 2nd December, with drinks following at the Abbeydale Sports Club. Full details are available from Brenda Greaves. Please communicate with Brenda before attending as she is liasing with Don’s family at this difficult time.
The three trustees will now meet to nominate a fourth to fill the vacant position due to Don’s passing. They will report to the club meeting in due course.
